Once again, a long time with no posts. To cut a long story short, I went home for a while in the holidays, came back, and spent a month sitting in the office doing a great deal of nothing. in total, I've had 3 weeks of classes since March, so there really was very little to post about. Anyway, here's the brief highlights:
This year's shogakko classes kicked off with the ninensei at the madhouse. It went well, although the part with the teacher smiling broadly and exclaiming "Please carry on!" as she dragged the kicking, screaming ADHD boy backwards out of the classroom by his ankles, leaving me alone in charge of the class for 15 minutes (Note: this is probably illegal.) was a little unexpected. The sounds of the boy screaming, crying, and occaissionally returning to try and kick the door down certainly added spice to my first solo teaching experience.
Last year, I noticed that pretty much all my go- and rokunensei classes were, in one way or another, quieter, calmer, and less likely to bounce off the walls than the kids in the lower years. Maybe, I reasoned, this was more than coincidence. Maybe, gonensei is the point where the kids are informed about Growing Up and the need to Act Responsibly.
With this in mind, after class I went to visit the collection of lunatics who made up last year's yonensei, to see if their becoming gonensei had caused any change in demeanour.
Oh well. At least I escaped with my life.
Elsewhere, things have pretty much continued from where they left off last term. Same schools, most of the same kids, most of the same teachers. The only big change is the assortment of new ichinensei, many of whom are touchingly cute...
...and only a small proportion of whom are worryingly demonic:
So, life has been petty much uneventful for the last few months. Well, there's the kids trying to kill me, of course, but that's pretty much an everyday occurrence here, and not really worth mentioning. More updates when interesting things happen.
