Hello, and welcome to the life of Steve, such as it is.

So, who am I? My name, surprisingly enough, is Steve, I'm British, and I'm coming to terms with no longer being a feckless student. As of July 2005, I graduate from Warwick University with a degree in history, and leave the British educational system for the first time since I was 3 years old. Which brings me to my cunning plan to avoid having to look for a career...

I'm currently preparing to take part in the JET programme, which aims to develop Japan's cultural links with the rest of the world by inviting random foreigners to come and teach English to Japanese schoolchildren. No, I don't quite get the logic either, but that didn't seem to make too much of a difference to the interview panel.

I've taken out this blog because for the first time in my life I'm doing something unusual enough as to be worth describing to others, and as a way of keeping in touch with people back home. If you haven't met me before, and you're reading this, I congratulate you on your powers of randomness.
